At AHS, we believe every animal deserves a chance at a loving home, and Spice Girl is a perfect example of our commitment to this mission. Born in 2020, this resilient 4-year-old Boerboel first arrived at our Newark, NJ shelter in November 2022 when her previous owner could no longer care for her. Despite a few attempts at finding the right home, Spice was adopted and returned several times. Each return was heartbreaking for her, but it also meant she was one step closer to finding her perfect match.
Spice Girl’s journey has been challenging, but our dedicated staff at AHS Forked River, where she was eventually transferred, have been there every step of the way. She quickly became a staff favorite, known for her big heart and even bigger personality. Despite her rough beginnings, Spice has shown incredible resilience and a remarkable ability to bounce back.
You can read more about her story here!
Our team has worked tirelessly to help Spice learn to trust again and build her confidence. She’s received extensive training, learning commands like sit, stay, down, and paw. Spice has also enjoyed various enrichment activities, from splashing in the lake and taking trips to Starbucks for a pup cup, to participating in training classes with our animal behavior staff.
Spice has even recently dipped her toe into the entertainment industry - modeling some harnesses for a company on QVC!
Spice’s protective nature is a hallmark of her breed, and she bonds deeply with those she trusts. It might take a little time for her to warm up to new people, but once she does, her affection is boundless. She’s a well-behaved, leash-trained, and toy-loving goofball who brings joy to everyone she meets.
We know the right home is out there - but until that time, Spice would love to have you as a sponsor!
