My Story

Pike the Tunpike Goat

Pike, formerly known as "The Turnpike Goat," spent a year near Exit 7 on the New Jersey Turnpike, living dangerously close to one of the busiest highways in the state. As a young goat, he became known for sleeping on overpass beams and dodging traffic—a situation that put his safety at constant risk.

After months of being spotted in such precarious conditions, a coordinated rescue effort by Bordentown Animal Control, New Jersey State Police, and Popcorn Park veterinarian Dr. Bergmann finally brought him to safety. On October 3rd, they stopped traffic and safely captured Pike, bringing him to Popcorn Park where he could live without the constant threat of danger.

After his rescue, Pike was brought to Popcorn Park where he quickly made himself at home with our goat herd. Pike’s curious nature makes him a standout at the Refuge. He enjoys keeping a watchful eye over the park, often propping his feet up on the fence to observe the goings-on around him. He’s a friendly and sociable goat who loves head scratches, treats, and plenty of attention from our staff.

Today, Pike enjoys a life free from the dangers of the highway, surrounded by the comfort of his friends and the love of the Popcorn Park community. We are proud to give Pike the home he deserves, where he can live out his days in peace.

Your sponsorship of Pike helps us provide him with all the care and attention he needs to thrive in his forever home. Help us keep his days filled with security, treats, and the TLC he loves! Consider sponsoring Pike today!
