My Story

Mickey the Appaloosa

Mickey has been a beloved resident of Popcorn Park since 2009. When he arrived at eight years old, he had already faced his share of challenges—blind in one eye and mildly handicapped, he was in need of a safe, permanent home. After his owner passed away, there were few options for a horse with special needs, but one compassionate individual refused to give up on him. Thanks to their efforts, Mickey found his way to Popcorn Park, where he has been cared for and cherished ever since.

Finding the right companion for Mickey wasn’t easy at first. He was introduced to Holly, a strong-willed donkey who had been grieving the loss of her longtime friend, Wrangler Jean. While Holly had turned away other farm animals, she surprised us all by gradually warming up to Mickey. The two formed a quiet yet meaningful bond, offering each other comfort and companionship. Sadly, Holly has since passed, but Mickey was never left without love. Our dedicated staff ensured he received extra attention and care, helping him through the transition until he was introduced to another gentle soul—Jezebel the donkey.

Now, Mickey and Jezebel share their days together, forming a new friendship built on trust and companionship. Though he has faced loss and hardship, Mickey has always found his way to a loving friend, whether it’s Holly, Jezebel, or the many people who care for him at Popcorn Park. His story is one of kindness, second chances, and the power of friendship. Please consider sponsoring Mickey today and helping us continue to provide him with the care and love he deserves.
