My Story

Bonnie the Macaw

Bonnie is a bold and beautiful Green-Winged Macaw who has been brightening up Popcorn Park since 2006. She arrived at just three years old with her mate, Clyde, and quickly became a favorite among the staff. When Clyde passed away in 2008, Bonnie had some adjusting to do—but this resilient girl didn’t stay lonely for long. Over time, she’s formed sweet friendships with some of our other feathered residents, including Skittles the Macaw and Mickey the African Grey. These days, she’s got plenty of company and is never short on conversation.

With her fiery red feathers, giant personality, and curious nature, Bonnie is always up to something fun. She absolutely lives for toys—especially big, chunky wooden ones she can gnaw on and destroy. (The louder the crunch, the better!) Bonnie’s toys get rotated regularly to keep her curious mind engaged, and she always makes quick work of breaking in the new ones. Whether she’s chewing, climbing, or tossing things around, she’s happiest when she has something to do.

Newspapers are another big hit for Bonnie! Bonnie loves tearing into fresh sheets, making the biggest mess possible—and loving every second of it. While it might not look tidy, this playful behavior is a great form of mental stimulation and gives her a healthy outlet for all that macaw energy. It’s one of the many simple things that make her days bright and enriching.

Bonnie is full of life, personality, and heart. Sponsoring her helps us provide her with everything she needs to thrive—like enrichment toys, fresh treats, and a clean, engaging habitat. If you’ve got a soft spot for sassy parrots with big beaks and even bigger hearts, Bonnie would love to have you on her team!
