Peafowl are a staple here at Popcorn Park, adding a splash of vibrant color and personality to our sanctuary. Our very first peacock arrived years ago after being found wandering astray, and over time, more have joined our free-roaming flock. Now, these dazzling birds can be spotted all around the refuge, from perching in trees to strolling past visitors with an air of confidence.
Known for their striking plumage, peacocks (males) grow elaborate, iridescent tail feathers, which they proudly display in breathtaking fan-like shows each spring to impress the peahens (females). Their beauty isn’t just visual—peacocks are also famous for their loud, unmistakable calls that echo throughout the refuge, often surprising first-time visitors!
Curious and bold, these birds are not shy about investigating guests, especially if they suspect you might have food. While they may seem elegant, peafowl are also quite hardy and adaptable, thriving in a variety of environments. However, in captivity or domestic settings, abandoned or unwanted peafowl often face challenges, as people don’t always realize the level of care and space they require.
At Popcorn Park, our peafowl live freely, contributing to the sanctuary’s unique charm and natural beauty. Your support helps us provide a safe and enriching home for these magnificent birds and all the rescued animals who call Popcorn Park home.
