Exotic Animals
Meet Forrest, an incredible rhesus macaque whose life changed forever after a frightening highway accident in Mississippi. He was one of 21 monkeys being transported for biomedical research when the truck carrying them overturned on Interstate 59. In the chaos, several monkeys escaped, and the incident made national headlines, drawing widespread concern from animal lovers everywhere.
Of the 3 remaining escapees, Forrest was the last and only one to survive, safely recovered after about a week on the run. Because he had spent so much time outside of the facility, he could not return to the research program. that’s when our team stepped in to offer him lifelong sanctuary at Popcorn Park Animal Refuge. When he arrived, he had no name, only a tattooed identification number, “NI 62.” Today, he is proudly known as Forrest and like his namesake, his journey reminds us that “life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.”
Now living safely in our Monkey House, Forrest is steadily acclimating to his new home. He’s getting to know his caretakers and his neighboring monkeys, slowly building trust day by day. He has discovered a growing list of favorite foods, grapes topping the list, and has even begun vocalizing, a good sign that he is becoming more comfortable and confident in his new surroundings.
Forrest spends his days enjoying plenty of climbing structures, ropes, toys, and all the gentle, attentive care he needs to recover both physically and emotionally. By sponsoring Forrest, you help give him the fresh start, expert care, and peaceful life he so deeply deserves. Become part of Forrest’s journey today and help us ensure his future is filled with safety, comfort, and kindness!
