JoJo is a young wallaby who came to us from a petting zoo in New Jersey. While the zoo meant well, they soon realized JoJo was not comfortable with the constant attention and touching that came with being in such an interactive environment. He became visibly stressed and withdrawn, and it was clear he needed a quieter, more natural setting. Thankfully, his caregivers wanted what was best for him and reached out to us to help give JoJo the peaceful home he deserves.

Since arriving at our sanctuary, JoJo has been slowly settling in. While he’s still a bit nervous around new people, he’s starting to show interest in his keepers and is growing more confident each day. His favorite part of the day is mealtime, especially when there’s a fresh salad involved! JoJo is given the space and time he needs to feel safe, and we’re thrilled to see little glimpses of his personality beginning to shine through.

Wallabies are shy, sensitive animals by nature, and JoJo is no exception. In the wild, they spend much of their time grazing, resting, and socializing quietly with their group. At the Refuge, JoJo has room to hop, relax, and interact with others on his own terms, without the pressure of constant human interaction.

Once JoJo settled in, we introduced him to Sweet Pea, a gentle deer in our care who is also looking for a friend. They quickly gained a peaceful companionship and often like to be near eachother, even if they're just having breakfast or basking in the sun.
