My Story

Skittles the Scarlet Macaw

Say hello to the Skittles! Skittles is a Scarlet Macaw, one of the most popular birds to have as a pet, but also the most common to find themselves relinquished to a Rescue. Skittles arrived at Popcorn Park in the summer of 2016, after we received a call that she was out loose in Monmouth County. Our Animal Control Officers (ACOs) hopped into action to get Skittles to safety. After a thorough check out by our medical staff, we took Skittles under our wing.

She quickly acclimated to her new bird haven, checking out her new neighbors Bonnie and Buddy. Skittles also looks forward to our staff who love to come spend time with her and compliment her beautiful feathers.

Beautiful Skittles quickly became known for her love of dancing! She loves to nod her head, whether it’s to the radio or to her own beat. She is always showing off her moves when spending time with her caretakers, who sometimes join in too.

Skittles also enjoys spending time with her latest toys, donated by sponsors and donors off our Popcorn Park Amazon Wish List! Skittles is especially fond of metal bird toys with chains and bells, but nothing compares to when she gets a new piece of cardboard to shred up.

You can sponsor Skittles today, and help provide her with the best care, enrichment like her toys, and nutritious foods like her favorites – bananas and grapes!
