Meet Kanu, one of the newest additions to our Big Cat family here at Popcorn Park! Kanu arrived in December 2023 after spending time at a facility in Pennsylvania, where he was well cared for. However, after the loss of his mate, it became clear that Kanu needed companionship. Understanding that he needed a change of scenery, his previous caregivers made the thoughtful decision to bring him to Popcorn Park, where he would join our pride and get the social interaction and care he deserved.

Since Kanu's arrival, he’s made himself right at home. Kanu quickly adapted to his new surroundings. His playful and friendly nature shone through, and he developed a special bond with his neighbors, especially Savannah, our lioness. The two have become fast friends, often seen playing through the fence and engaging in friendly interactions. It’s clear that Kanu’s longing for companionship has been fulfilled, and he’s thriving in his new environment.

Kanu is no ordinary lion—he’s got a personality that’s as big as his mane! One of his most endearing quirks is his habit of carrying his paw in his mouth and hopping around his enclosure, a sight that never fails to bring smiles to everyone who sees it. His playful nature and gentle demeanor make him a favorite among our staff and visitors alike. Kanu’s curiosity and friendly disposition have also led him to form strong bonds with his keepers, further cementing his place as a beloved member of our family.

As a part of the Popcorn Park team, we’re dedicated to giving Kanu the best care possible, including regular medical attention, a balanced diet, and plenty of enrichment to keep him engaged and happy. His favorite activities include playing with his toys and interacting with his new lioness companion, Savannah. Kanu’s daily care and well-being are a priority for us, and we work hard to ensure that he’s happy, healthy, and comfortable.
