My Story

Our Goat Gang

We have no shortage of goats who are fortunate to call Popcorn Park home! With over 20 goats residing at the Park, our staff stays busy making sure they want for nothing. From high-quality hay, goat food, regular hoof trimmings, vaccinations, dewormer, medical care, and more, we make sure they receive they very best care. Some reside in the Refuge while others live behind-the-scenes in our barnyard but they all hold a very special place in our hearts.

One particularly friendly group of goats arrived in 2019 as part of a group of over 100 goats rescued from a hoarding situation in Southern New Jersey. With too many non-neutered goats on the property, the goats had kept breeding and multiplying until there were too many to properly care for. Thankfully, their owner realized she was in over her head and reached out for help. Popcorn Park along with several other rescue groups across the state worked to rehome all the goats. 11 goats came to live at Popcorn Park and soon surprised us with one more baby goat. Now Libee, Chad, Safari, Shelly, and the rest of this Goat Gang live front a center in the heart of the Park, happily greeting visitors, snoozing in the sunshine, and playing all day long!

Another pair of goats who reside in our barnyard are sisters Bobo and Buckwheat. These super sweet little ladies are a pair of Nigerian Dwarf Goats who have spent their whole lives together. Raised by a local family to be used as part of their 4H programs, Bobo and Buckwheat found themselves in need of a new home when the kids grew up and were no longer in 4H. To make matters worse, the township where they lived changed regulations so that they were no longer allowed to keep the siblings. The family contacted us to see if we could help and we welcomed them with open arms to our Goat Gang at Popcorn Park! These classy ladies are as friendly as they are playful and love interacting with our staff and volunteers. They never fail to make us smile.

With over 20 resident goats of all breeds, colors, and personalities, each has a special rescue story of their own. Regardless of what brought each one to our sanctuary, we could not be happier to provide all of our goats with a lifetime of love and care. Our Goat Gang would just love some extra love and we hope you will consider sponsoring them today!
